CNN: Unbiased Report

Not very often do I compliment CNN for fair reporting on a news story, actually never, but the attached story is one that I believe is a really good example of fair, unbiased reporting. In this story, the reporters are extremely careful not to release the suspect's daughter's name. They portray her as an innocent victim, which they should, they describe the mess left behind by those who performed the search of the house. They didn't do that to say law enforcement was wrong for searching, but to show rummaging through a person's belongings is messy and is a big deal. They mentioned the Afghan flag hanging on the wall, but not to show the suspect as an extremist, but rather to show him as a person who had to leave his country that he loved in order to offer his family a better life in America. They talked about the guns found, guns linked to the crimes, but never once mentioned them being bought legally or illegally or how dangerous it is for Muslim people to have guns, which they shouldn't have done. They mention his past run in with the law and how those cases were dismissed, not to prove him guilty but to prove that he has never been accused of a crime that has stuck. They never used this story as a chance to portray this suspect as an example of what the Muslim community is as a whole, nor should they have. And most important of all, they were careful to make sure that no matter how much evidence there was, they treated this suspect as if he were innocent until proven guilty. I have been following the story of these Muslim men being killed. The stories have been written in a way to show something very sinister. They have made sure to let their readers know the Muslim community was very fearful that some person full of hate was hunting down Muslim men. Obviously, CNN was hoping for a different suspect, maybe one wearing a MAGA hat with an American flag tattooed on his chest and I feel like if the suspect would have met this description they would have reported it in a different way and his family would have been fair game, as well as all in his community, but once the true suspect was identified they did report the facts they had available without portraying the suspect as guilty, without giving their opinion on what this says about Muslim Americans, or without trying to make this a cause for hate crime legislation. I know some of you who are haters of CNN think they are incapable of reporting on a story in an unbiased way, but they did in this case and of course the way they are giving our former President that same benefit of the doubt, should prove how honest they really are.
