Farmers and Ranchers

Farmers and Ranchers do not worry the Democratic party has not forgotten about you. On pages 18 and 19 of their 2020 platform they dedicate three paragraphs to farmers and ranchers. You should absolutely read these paragraphs, but I have just pulled out a few sentences:

1. Democrats believe farmers should have the right to repair their own farming equipment, rather than being forced to rely on large corporations for even the simplest fixes. (What are they talking about? I know a good many farmers and ranchers and none of them turn to big corporations for simple fixes, or most complex ones. I am pretty sure if you gave a rancher a sharp pocketknife, bailing wire, and a set of pliers he could perform heart surgery).

2. Democrats will partner with America’s farmers, ranchers, and foresters to make the U.S. agriculture sector is the first in the world to achieve net-zero emissions, which will spark a revolution in agriculture and open up new revenue streams for farmers in energy and waste products and grow bio-based manufacturing jobs. (In other words, we are about to create more emission regulations than you ever thought was possible in agriculture. Remember, the left wing of the Democratic party, really the only wing of the Democratic establishment, believes cow flatulence is killing the environment. If Democrats get there way, there will be no family farms or ranches, the only farms that will be able to afford to operate will be those bowing to the government and those accepting government funding........with strings attached.)

3. America’s farmworkers are essential to our economy, our communities, and our security. We will enforce labor and environmental protections for farmworkers, including overtime and safety rules protecting workers from exposure to pesticides and extreme heat, and ensure farmworkers are able to exercise their right to bargain collectively. (Nothing will help ag business like labor unions. Every job mentioned in the platform is attached to unions. Don't worry farmers and ranchers you will not be left out. You will be able to go to the bargaining table with your workers. I can just see Mike Read calling the toll-free number of the Federation of Chicken Catchers when it is harvest time).

If you farmers and ranchers read no other part of the platform, read those three paragraphs. Dems were able to pack a punch in a short amount of space. I know most farmers and ranchers are going to vote Republican, but this year requires even more. It requires you talking to each other and to those outside your business to get people to vote. Most ranchers and farmers focus on their business and getting the job done. This year one of your jobs has to be not letting the Democrats kill your livelihood and the livelihood of future generations. That is not being overly dramatic.
