Integrity of the Election Process

Attached is the joint letter from several Senators concerning the elector certification process on January 6th. A fact that is presented in that letter is 40% of our population believes this was a rigged election. These are not only Republicans that feel this way, a large part of that 40% is made up of Democrats and Independents. After the 2000 election we watched for 37 days as counters, along with observers and media, scrutinized every ballot in Broward County. A new term was derived from those counts: the hanging chad. That count ended after 37 days with a Supreme Court ruling, not a Supreme Court avoidance of the question. Younger people will not remember this, but the first term of the George Bush presidency was considered illegitimate by many in the Democratic party, the only thing that really sidelined that discussion was 9/11. The thing that allowed our constitution to work in that situation was a ruling by the SCOTUS, even though the losers called it judicial activism. The problem we have with this election is not the rulings by courts but the reluctance and refusal to hear the evidence in order to rule. In many of these cases it is not the lack of evidence that keeps the courts from ruling but things such as standings, and in one particular case when the lawsuit was filed before the election the court said it was too early but when it was filed after the election it said it was too late. The SCOTUS has agreed to hear a case, after inauguration day. I will be surprised if they come back and say it is too late to do anything anyway and refuse to hear the case. There is no doubt the courts do not want to get involved in politics, but American citizens absolutely need a court system to rule in times where there are questions that ultimately undermines the integrity of our election process, no matter whether fraud exists or not.

One argument we hear is there is no large scale fraud, that is an easy out. Do you realize there are results of six states being questioned because of obvious irregularities. In each of those six states there is one county being questioned, so large scale fraud is not the biggest concern. Performing an audit, not just a recount, in these counties is not an overly daunting task, but it is a task that would give the American people confidence in the election process. Of course, if there is a thorough investigation and it is found Biden won there will be Trump supporters who will not believe it or if it shows Trump won there will be Biden supporters who do the same, but at least it can be said it was thoroughly investigated.

After the 2016 election, the results were questioned due to accused Trump-Russia collusion. We all know now this was a story made up by the Hillary campaign and supported by the Obama/Biden Whitehouse, but the charges were said to be so egregious, no matter that it was a total lie, that a special prosecutor was appointed. That investigation lasted 674 days, many people's lives and career were turned upside down and destroyed under the scorched earth policy trying to get people to sell out the President with testimony that did not exist. Democrat politicians and MSM promised "evidence coming out soon" that would prove the accusations; they promised these things while knowing it was all a lie.

In 2000, 2004 and 2016, Democrats said those elections were stolen. 2000 was Florida, 2004 was Ohio, and 2016 was Russia collusion. Two of those elections had thorough investigations to try to prove those accusations. Now there are many who have concerns about this election. We have some Senators that are not saying we need to overturn the election but that there needs to be a 10 day delay to have an audit performed, for the counties in question, by a bi-partisan commission. This is not some crazy idea trying to overturn an election, it is an opportunity to prove the election. I am sure this will fail but if our courts will not hear the evidence, we need to let this be vetted in some other way that is open and transparent. All citizens should want this and then accept the results. Biden supporters should want it to prove, without a doubt, their candidate won, and people who were for neither one should want it to make sure the process won.

The thing that is way more important than who is elected is confidence in the way we are electing them.
