Rally 'Round the Flag

We have all heard the term "rally 'round the flag". Most of us think of that as some kind of act of patriotism. In reality, this came from a paper written by a political scientist named John Mueller in 1970. Rally 'round the flag is just a phenomenon where the President receives a short-term surge in the polling numbers due to an international incident, and that incident causes the country to be "united" behind a cause. According to Mueller, there are three qualities that must exist in order for this to happen: it must be international, it must involve the whole country, and it must be specific and dramatic. A great example is Jimmy Carter had an approval rating increase of 29% immediately after the Iranian hostage situation began; obviously, it did not last long. No matter who the president may be this could be a very scary phenomenon because there is always a chance for an international crisis if an administration needs one. If one questions whether Ukraine is a rally round the flag moment, all we have to do is go back to the reporting of MSM at the end of 2021 and beginning of 2022. No matter how much the MSM tried to cover for Biden, the American people of every party, every race, and every religion were recognizing how bad the Biden administration was. People were recognizing his policies were causing hyper inflation, supply chain issues, and destruction of our energy sector. People were recognizing the left's effort to separate this country through CRT, a LGBTQI++++ push, and climate change hand wringing was destroying our country, and approval numbers showed it. Now that Russia's attack on Ukraine is welly underway, the administration, Democrats, and MSM is blaming the ills of America on Putin and attacking the policies of this President is considered almost treasonous. They want people to believe that all the things that were being talked about before the war, that were going to cause a house cleaning in November, really did not exist before Putin. When you ask yourself the question, "why didn't we do more before the invasion, such as supply weapons and training, especially when this administration said for months that it was imminent" think about the rally 'round the flag phenomenon. For the left and this administration, having power in this country is more important than the people of this country. They tried getting a rally by attacking the police, by causing division by race, sexuality, class, by dividing vaxxers and anti-vaxxers, maskers and anti-maskers, and dividing those who want to save the world from climate change and those who realize wind and solar as a replacement for fossil fuel is not a reality. The problem was none of these things helped their helpless cause, and now watching live shots of innocent people dying every day is their last effort to get the "rally 'round the flag" impact before November. We watched this war develop for months with this administration failing to do anything and then we are shocked by the tragedy that we are now seeing, even though we all knew this is exactly what we would see. Watching this administration is like watching a drunk driver, actually a parade of drunk drivers, driving the wrong way on a one way street for 20 miles, then when tragedy occurs saying "how did this happen". The sad part is we are a long ways from this being over. There is only One who can turn our country around and He does not belong to a political party.
