Sucked in the Granularity

I believe almost every person in our country is looking for answers. As much as we want to believe otherwise, our country is in dire times, whether we are talking about our safety or our economy. The question is how have we gotten here? If we knew that answer we could just work to correct the mistakes we have made, but it is not that easy. I think we have to remember that mass communication in our country is controlled by very few people. I believe there has been an effort to present everything in a very granular way. People my age, and even a little younger, were raised by a generation that knew what real self-sacrifice, hard work, and service meant. They were people that were born post-depression and then watched friends and family members go off to war, as well as themselves, just to have many of them never come back. Even though we were raised by parents that were interested in politics and chose one party or the other to support, almost all of them raised us to add value to society. They may have had differing opinions when it came to specific issues, but they were in agreement that morals, ethics, resolve, service, and sometimes sacrifice are what was required of each of us. Even though they may have had different opinions there were some things they all agreed on. I believe that has been lost because our kids have been raised in a time where information is fed to us in a very granular way, where every issue becomes the important issue. The issues that impact 1% of the population are fed to us as if it is more important than those that impact us all. We have young people who have been taught that our country has wronged them and that they need to be paid back for those wrongs. We have people, who are now adults, that were raised and were able to dress and act as extreme as they wanted in school and if anybody stood against that then they were victims of bullying. So I believe this is our problem, we are trying to solve issues with common sense solutions that will work for people who have no common sense, who have been raised thinking they should be able to live outside the lines. While we are trying to solve these issues, we have been sucked into the granularity. I think most people who are pro-life or pro-choice believe that abortion is not good and should be avoided, and whether we are pro-gun control or pro 2nd amendment we agree that crazy people killing others is a horrible thing that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, we have been deceived into believing the issue being debated is more important than the stance we are willing to take.
