The Tunnel Vision of the Right

I just finished reading the SCOTUS denial to hear the Texas case against several swing states. This is very interesting to me. The case was not denied based on merit but on standing. Standing is from Article III of the Constitution and is every bit as constitutional as Freedom of Speech. I have read a lot about standing and this is what I, not claiming to be an expert or even resemble one, understand about it. Art. III makes it clear if one files suit they must be able to show they need relief because they are harmed by the action of another; in other words, they have a right to be a plaintiff. The SCOTUS refused to hear the Texas case because they said the State of Texas was not directly harmed by voting rules in other states. Even if we do not like the ruling of the SCOTUS to pass on the Texas case, Article III is very important because it keeps me from filing suit because I believe my neighbor is being harmed, while there is no direct harm to me. If we were allowed to file suit in those situations our courts would be clogged even more than they are. This is where the tunnel vision thing comes into play.

The left has spent many years putting organizations together to push their agenda. They have done this patiently, knowing the impact of these organizations may not be seen for another 30 or 40 years. These organizations are put together in order to make voting “easier” for everybody and to assure no group of people is disenfranchised. One such organization is Common Cause. Common Cause was developed in the 1970s under the guise of pursuing fair elections, but their purpose is for one thing: electing people on the left and making sure no left votes, legal or illegal, can be disqualified. In 2019, Common Cause, as a plaintiff, was victorious in a lawsuit against Georgia in ending Georgia’s efforts to not allow people to vote who were not on the voting rolls. Previously, if a voter showed up to vote and they were not on the voting rolls they cast a provisional ballot and if the problem could not be fixed then that vote was not counted. Common Cause was victorious in having that overturned. The court found that Common Cause had standing in this suit because they had members of their organization in Georgia who would be directly harmed.

Something else the left has done. In mid-term elections, they have put a tremendous amount of effort into getting the left elected down the ballot in state legislature seats and judge seats, all while the right was apathetic and didn’t see the importance of those positions.

Unfortunately, when we make it harder to disqualify votes we make it easier for fraudulent votes to be counted. The left has known that and has planned that for many years all in the name of inclusivity and fair elections. The right has stood by and watched. The right has witnessed these radical groups being formed by the left, and we tried to form our own with no resolve. The left has always known the right will cower if they just accuse a group of being a hate group, bigoted, homophobic, and racist. The left has also recognized that conservatives have placed their trust in a Republican Party that is made up of politicians, many of whom are much more concerned with keeping their political position rather than fighting for the conservative cause. We had a belief that if these politicians failed us we could always fall back on the courts, but there is a thing called Article III that makes that very difficult; activists on the left developed groups to address this, while people on the right were content to just let our Republican Party fight for us.

So here we are in 2020. The plan of the left has been executed. The left was focused on two things the Presidency and the Senate. They have planned for many years to put things in place to make this happen. In 2016, after 8 years of Obama, it looked like their plan would fall into place without taking extreme measures but Trump surprised them. They were never going to let that happen again and spent the next four years distracting the right with investigations and impeachments so that the right spent four years defending the rightfully elected President, while the left was executing their plan. The left was willing to give up down-ballot seats in 2020 and the right wants to point at those seats to prove the victory, but that does no good now, we should have been focusing on those down-ballot seats for many years because they are the ones that make our voting rules. Unfortunately, the right has been looking at the next four years while the left has been looking at the next four decades.

For all of us on the right who are looking for somebody to blame for the mess we are in, we just need to look in the mirror. We have been placing our trust in self-serving politicians and a court system rather than putting the effort into winning the cause. Apathy is easy but it doesn’t taste very good when we have to eat the fruits of our lack of labor. We, on the right, have less than a month to fight for and pray for a miraculous victory, but after that, we can lick our wounds or get ready to fight for change. Unfortunately, the apathy of the right may rise up again in the Georgia Senate election, we will see. If the Georgian’s fall into a defeatist stupor we will learn that hell hath no fury like a Democratic party with unfettered power.
