What Is Our Common Goal?

Disclaimer: I wrote a post a while back that caused quite a stir; it was just my opinion. There was a comment that let me know they were tired of my political posts because they had read all of them, and they went on to give me a piece of their mind, which I actually appreciated, but they made it clear they weren't as appreciative. If you went back to that post, you would easily identify that comment. So here is fair warning, this is my opinion about something political, nothing more and nothing less. I promise I will be respectful in the following post and in any comments I make, but if you think you may be harmed, or your day may be ruined by reading this post just stop right now and scroll on by. I love my FB friends more than I love triggering them, so proceed with caution.

Unity - The new theme for America. Question: Can America come together in Unity? I believe the answer is both yes and no. Let me start with why I say no. Unity occurs when a group of people are pursuing a common goal, without a common goal there really isn't a reason for unity. In 1776, the word United was put into the name of our country because there were common goals: freedom, prosperity, and a standing in the world. Before the United States of America, we were the united colonies, and before that we were just a bunch of individual colonies. Their common goals made unity a priority over individualism. So, for there to be unity there needs to be a common goal; what is our common goal? The goal has to be something more than unity. Over the years our country has been compartmentalized into groups and those groups labeled. The needs of each individual group have been identified, promises have been made that those needs have to be addressed, and, for the people in those groups, getting those needs met is their common goal and that is what brings unity to that group. Unfortunately, that unity cannot exist outside that group, because the needs of that group can be opposing to the needs of the next group. When President Biden, he is my president, made a speech on how the stimulus package was going to help businesses, he labeled multiple groups who would benefit. By him doing that those individual groups immediately started thinking how their groups needs would be met and the groups that were not mentioned immediately started thinking about what they wouldn't get, that became the emphasis for many rather than how our country as a whole would benefit. Currently, while MSM, Democratic politicians, and those who voted for those politicians are calling for unity they are doing all they can to wipe away any trace of the existence of MAGA or the ideas that caused Trump to be elected. The very large part of the population with those ideas are being called white supremacists and domestic terrorists. The interesting thing is those people have a common goal: MAGA. That term may have been created by Trump but all he did was tap into what his supporters had been desiring for a long time. The number one goal of MAGA is to make the USA the superpower in the world. This is not to dominate the world, but it is to protect the world and our way of life because the next country that becomes a superpower, China, will bring something far different than America does. Here is the problem and here is the need for destroying the idea that got Trump elected; Democrats cannot get elected if the whole country is pursuing one goal. The Democrat strategy is to convince individual groups their goals are the only goals that are important. What would happen if before decisions were made to increase abortions, restrictions on religious freedoms, gun control, advance transgenderism, taxes, fossil fuel restrictions by shutting down an infrastructure project that is being built legally, picking which businesses the government would support and which ones they would destroy, welfare laws that keep people trapped in poverty, etc., the questioned was asked "how will this decision help America stay THE SUPERPOWER in the world? Would those decisions be made if that was our common goal and if that was the thing that unified us.

Now to my "yes" answer. Our country always, for a short time, comes together in unity when a real tragedy occurs, 9/11 is a good example. Unfortunately, that is short lived because the individual groups are reminded of their needs again and the tragedy is forgotten.

Our Superpower status should be a common goal, not because we want to dominate but because we want to prevent others from being a superpower in order to dominate. Our freedom depends on this, and the freedom of the world diminishes if this position gets taken from us. Becoming a superpower is not like becoming a Superbowl champion, it doesn't change every year; that position lasts for centuries. Decisions made for the strength of the whole country cannot put an emphasis on individual groups. A large part of our citizenry is willing to unite behind one common goal and they have proven it over the last four years. That goal was not to advance Trump but to advance America, and, for those people, that goal did not change the moment that Trump boarded the plane.
